The mutilated body of Hanifa Abubakar, a 5-year-old pupil of an Islamic school has been found buried in a shallow grave 44 days after she was kidnapped at Kawaji, in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano state, while she was on her way home from school.
It was gathered that Hanifa's kidnappers had requested a N6 million ransom after her kidnap on December 4, and despite collecting part of the N6m demanded, went ahead to kill her. Her decomposing body was found at a mushroom private school in the Tudunwada area of Kano.
Hanifa's abductor has been identified as Abdulmalik Mohammed Tanko, a school proprietor, who had taken her to his wife to keep after her kidnap, but she refused. He was said to have taken her to Tudunwada where he operates the private school, and then laced her tea with rat poison before cutting her body in pieces and then proceeded to bury her within the school after she recognized him.
An uncle to the deceased pupil further revealed that the suspect was among the first set of people who had gone to sympathize with her parents after the abduction in December.
Tanko and his accomplices were arrested around Zaria Road in Kano last night while attempting to collect the second tranche of the ransom despite killing the child.
