The Niger state Commissioner for Education, Dr Mohammad Nuhu, yesterday disclosed that over 7000 Ghost students have been found on the scholarship payroll of the Niger State Scholarship Scheme.
This discovery which according to him saved the government about 125 million was made possible by the introduction of a scratch card issued to all scholarship beneficiaries.
Wondering how these students were able to beat the security measures put in place by their various institutions, he said from now on Applicants must register online for the award through the ministry’s website.
This new system will not allow double registration and be able to detect fake registrations from applicants.
