Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has recently appointed 27 new teaching assistants as part of its strategic initiative to cultivate the next generation of scholars and researchers. This decision aligns with the university’s mission to enhance academic excellence and provide postgraduate students with the essential skills and knowledge for success in both academic and professional realms.

According to a statement released by the University on Monday, August 26, 2024, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, revealed that the selection process for the Teaching Assistantship positions, categorized as Grades I and II, occurred between May and June 2024. These positions were specifically available to postgraduate students enrolled in PhD and academic master’s programs for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The Postgraduate College, which oversees the program, received 32 applications—18 for Grade I and 14 for Grade II. After a thorough evaluation, 16 candidates were chosen for Grade I, and 11 for Grade II. The rigorous selection process ensured that the selected individuals not only excelled in their specialized fields but also possessed strong general knowledge, exemplary character, effective communication skills, and a dedicated commitment to academic excellence. Professor Siyan Oyeweso, Provost of the Postgraduate College, expressed satisfaction with the selection process, stating, “The Postgraduate College is pleased to have conducted the screening and chosen the most qualified candidates.”

The newly appointed teaching assistants will play a key role in developing teaching materials and assisting in course delivery while advancing their own research endeavors.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the new appointees, urging them to pursue continuous learning and adaptability. He highlighted the essential role they will play in tackling societal challenges and encouraged them to remain devoted to their academic and professional development.

This initiative underscores UNIOSUN’s commitment to fostering an environment where both students and staff are empowered to contribute significantly to the university’s mission of achieving academic excellence and societal impact through rigorous research.
