The vice-chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule has disclosed that the university has gotten approval for the award of a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery. He made the disclosure during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, the State capital.
According to Okogbule, the approval was as a result of an accreditation exercise carried out by the National Universities Commission in April 2021, and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria in the institution’s Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBBS degrees programme between 30th and 31st March 2021.
It was also revealed that the Council approved the increase of the institution's admission quota from 50 to 100, after a thorough assessment of its infrastructural facilities. The VC further disclosed that 16 out of the 23 programmes presented for the NUC accreditation exercise received full accreditation, while seven receive interim accreditation status.
