Residents accuse Borno primary schools' administrators of selling admission slots

The authorities of two mega primary schools in Borno state have been accused of selling admission slots to parents for as much as N15, 000 per slot, thereby increasing the number of out-of-school children in the state.

According to a resident who spoke to newsmen, the mega schools were built by the World Bank in pursuit of its Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) project for West Africa, to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the region.

A majority of parents who intend to enroll their wards in the schools are said to be extremely poor and ignorant of the admission process. They eventually get frustrated when they are unable to raise monies to secure admission for their children and end up abandoning the process. This has resulted in so many out-of-school children in the state.

They were also allegations of the schools' administrators collecting a fee of N30,000 in the promise of giving teaching jobs to poor residents.

The school involved in the illegal act is located along Kano-Jos Road, called Asheik Jarma, Bulumkuttu Abuja Primary School, and a yet-to-be-named school, which is directly opposite Zanna Umar Mustapha Housing Estate main gates, along Kano- Jos Road, Maiduguri.
