The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management, Professor Akpan Ekpo will deliver the Distinguished Public Lecture of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lagos on Thursday, June 13, 2013.
The Lecture entitled “Promoting Inclusive Growth: Issues of Public Policy, People’s Expectations and Private Sector Responses” is scheduled to commence at 10.00 a.m. in the Arts Theatre, Main Campus, Akoka, Lagos.
The Chairman of the occasion is the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Mr. Bisi Onasanya while the Discussant is Professor Willie Iyigbuniwe of the Department of Finance, Faculty of Business Administration, University of Lagos.
The Chief Host of the event is the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Rahamon A. Bello, FAEng and the Hosts are the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Omololu Soyombo and Head, Department of Economics, University of Lagos, Professor Ndubisi Nwokoma.

Born on June 26, 1954, Professor Akpan Ekpo received his pre-University education in Lagos, Nigeria. He obtained his B.A. Economics degree (Hon. Cum Laude, First Class) from Howard University, Washington D.C. in 1976, and M.Sc. and Ph.D in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 1981 and 1983 respectively.
He was on the Dean’s Honour Roll throughout his undergraduate programme at Howard University. Professor Ekpo’s academic career in the USA spanned the Graduate Assistantship at Howard University, Instructor at Slippery Rock State University, Pennsylvania and Robert Morris College, Pittsburgh as well as Assistant Professorship at North Carolina A&T State University, in Greensboro, N.C., USA.
The internationally-acclaimed academic is a Fellow of the Nigeria Economic Society as well as member of numerous professional associations including the American Economic Association, USA, Royal Economic Society, UK, East and South African Economic Association, Nigerian Political Science Association, African Finance and Economics Association, USA, Nigerian Society for International Affairs and the Nigerian Statistical Association, among others. He has published extensively in many local and international journals and is well traveled.
Professor Ekpo is happily married to Mrs. Njeri M. Ekpo and blessed with four children.
