UNILORIN – The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has said that the institution takes the issue of quality assurance very seriously in its bid to give its students high standard education and produce quality graduates.
Prof. Ambali stated this last Monday (March 17, 2014), when he received an Accreditation Team from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in his office.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (MS), Prof. Yisa Fakunle, the Vice-Chancellor assured ICAN that quality assurance is a continuous and on-going process at Unilorin, pointing out that the University had corrected all the observations made by the team during an earlier visit in 2008.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the University would welcome any suggestion to improve the quality of education in the institution.
Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the ICAN Accreditation Team, Prof. Taiwo Ashaolu, expressed the Institute’s pleasure with the progress recorded by the University of Ilorin, saying that the accreditation exercise was not a witch-hunt but an exercise that is based on the principle of quality assurance.

Other members on the ICAN team included Dr. Samuel O. Dada, Mrs. Rufina Awode, and Mr. Anisere Hammed.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor also received a team from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja and the National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna, on Tuesday (March 18, 2014).
The leader of the team, Mr. Chuks Mbaike told the Vice-Chancellor that the team was in the University to assess the progress of the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network North Central Regional Centre, (NWRCBNet-NC), University of Ilorin Centre. He disclosed that the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources had mandated the team to ensure that the Unilorin Centre is well-established being one of the first two centres to be established in the country.
Mr. Mbaike commended the University of Ilorin for the facilities made available at the Centre, disclosing that Consultants from the National Water Institute would soon be visiting the Centre to draw up its operational guidelines.
The team was received on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Felix Oladele, who said that the University would soon commence a Masters degree programme in Integrated Water Resources Management.
Prof. Oladele, who enjoined the Ministry of Water Resources and the National Water Resources Institute to ensure that the University gets all the needed resources for the Centre, also called for a stronger partnership among the three institutions.
Other members of the team that visited the Vice-Chancellor were Dossah Bilkisu (NWRI, Kaduna), Julius Onemano (NWRI, Kaduna) and Mr. Ishaya Chiroma (NUWSRP, Abuja) and the Coordinator, NWRCBNet-NC, Dr. A. W. Salami.
