The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called for the ban of public office holders from sending their children/wards to study in tertiary institutions abroad.
Zonal Coordinator of Akure ASUU, Prof. Olu Olufayo and FUTA ASUU branch Chairman, Dr. Olayinka Awopetu pleaded for this advocacy in a statement signed by the union, adding that the policy if implemented, would reduce the decadence in the nation’s education sector.
The statement said that “members of the ruling class and their cohorts have their wards schooling abroad, so they have no commitment to end ASUU strike since political offices has become occupational rather than public service.
ASUU explained that the union has been on strike for over nine months over issues which have been ignored by successive governments in the country. They maintained that the deplorable situation of universities in the country has grown from bad to worse.
