CHRISTIANS of the Baptist denomination yesterday staged a peaceful protest against the on-going re-
classification of schools by the Osun State
government which led to merger of some public
schools in the state.
The protesters as early as 8.00 a.m. trooped to the
Baptist High School, Adeke, Iwo and locked out
students and teachers posted to resume work for the
new session.
But in a swift reaction, the state government called
for understanding over the education policies which
had witnessed resistance by some people, saying
that the overall objective was to raise the school
standard and make education more impactful to
pupils.
In a statement signed by the Director of Bureau of
Communications and Strategy in the Office of the
Governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, he said the state
government took the decision so as to return the
state’s education fortune, which was at its lowest
ebb in 2010, to its proper status.
