Students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Tuesday, March 30, trooped out in their numbers to protest against the suspension of the students’ union government by the vice-chancellor of the institution, Thereby resisting attempts to be evacuated from their halls of residence.
Recall that the university's senate had on Tuesday morning after a meeting, announced the suspension of the executives of the body, saying the move was necessary to avert the breakdown of law and order. Read here
According to reports, the union was suspended after news that the leaders of the body were planning a protest against the adjusted academic calendar of the school.
The protesting students were heard chanting ''No SUG! No UNIBEN! We are not going anywhere''.
The students claimed the management wanted to use the hostel accommodations of the school to host athletes coming for the National Sports Festival holding in Benin City, the state capital on April 4.
