Prolonged closure of schools is disastrous – Afe Babalola

The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, and a senior lawyer, Afe Babalola, on Wednesday, 13 January called on the federal government to review the continuous closure of schools in Nigeria as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the statesman, the prolonged closure of schools is unconstitutional and disastrous, especially when schools known for their advanced infrastructure facilities and are capable of functioning safely amidst the pandemic outbreak are included in the ban.

He advised the government against waiting indefinitely for the eradication of the COVID-19 virus, which according to experts may last another year globally. He also urged the government to emulate other foreign countries by paying the salaries of lecturers in private universities shut down because of COVID-19.
