ABSTRACT
The research is centered on “internal control: a comparative analysis between public and private sectors” (A Case Study of Mubi North Local Government and Oceanic Bank Plc, Mubi Branch, Adamawa State). Internal control embraces not only internal check and audit but the whole system of the control guiding the system of operation in the organizations. This project intends to compare the system of internal control system in the public sector (Mubi North Local Government) and private sector (Oceanic Bank Plc, Mubi Branch) and the causes of the differences and similarities in the system. The objective of this study is to determine the cause of variation and similarities, to know whether the internal control system has contributed towards the organizational stated objectives and to know the proper method to be employ for an effective control system. The population of the study comprises of fifty (50) at fifty percent (50%) each for public and private sector. I, the researcher use personal interview and observation, the instrument of questionnaire, a total of thirty four (34) were use in gathering the data, simple frequency distributions were used to analyze the data, related publication were intensively reviewed. Primary and secondary source of data were used. The research findings were base on analysis of response to questionnaire. It was find out that in public sector, there is no formal segregation of duties among staff and no any supervisory body that check the operational activities unlike in the private sector. The researcher also recommended that, there should be a formal segregation of duties and they should have a supervisory body to check the operation activities in the public sector while the private sector should ensure constant visit of there supervisory body, ensure organization plan and defined staff responsibility and identify line of reporting.
