DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF REMOTE CONTROL DOOR SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
The paper presents a simple design and implementation of a remote control door. It enables the user to control the door using remotefrom approximately10 meters away. The remote transmits a tone using an infrared light-emitting diode. This tone is decoded by a receiver, since the receiver only switcheswhen the tone is received. The system was broken down into simplerfunctional blocks namely; infra-red transmitter, infra-red sensor, signalamplifier, control logic, sampler, control stepper, output control logic, load anddisplay unit. Details of each subunit are described in the paper.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Security is the concern of people around the world. Beyond hiding object or constantly guarding them, the most frequently used option is to secure them with a device. Locks are the most widely employed security devices (Irving, 2013). They are found on anything to which access must be controlled, such as vehicles, storage containers, doors, gates and windows. The security of any property or facility relies heavily on locking devices. Locks merely deter or delay entry and should be supplemented with other protection devices when a proper balance of physical security is needed. And assessment of all hardware including door frames and jams, should be included in any physical security survey. Locking devices vary greatly in appearance as well as function and application (Sandra, 2011).
Sliding door is a type of door which opens horizontally by sliding, whereby the door is either mounted on or suspended from a track. Types of sliding doors include pocket doors, Arcadia doors, and bypass doors. Sliding doors are commonly shower doors, glass doors, screen doors, wardrobe and the system can also be done and implemented in the building of school, hall, auditorium, banks, shopping malls, various departmental buildings and they can be extremely useful in a wide variety of environments.
Automation is the art of making processes or machines self-acting or self-moving, it also pertains to the technique of making a device, machine, process or procedure more fully automatic, it is a self-controlling or self-moving processes. Automation in the electrical, electronics and computing world has grown rapidly of which it dates back to 1940 when the first electronics computing machine was developed. This has aided humans as it basically reduces/eliminates human intervention, of which automatic sliding door also makes the list of automation in the electro-computing world (Alzar and Buhur, 2013).
An automatic door is an automated movable barrier installed at the entrance of a room, building or space to control and restrict access or provide privacy. Also an automatic door indicates a door that opens on its own as a moving object approaches it. It is an electro-mechanical door that has undergone the process of automation. The reason for making the sliding door automatic is to allow pedestrians to gain easy entrance in and out without having anyone to keep opening and closing the sliding door. (Giblasco, 2011).
This work is aimed at considering the possibility of designing and implementing a remote control door opener Microcontroller-Based gate opener. This is done using Digital Code Lock through a Radio Frequency (RF) Remote Controller which can enhance Security in homes, offices, etc. This of course is an indispensable concept in industrial electronics. Moreso, the value of security to man is applicable to the facilities used by him. Most gates and doors in the industrial settings are fortified with automation. This remote control door opener project is for safeguarding a house or office focuses on the use of RF remote to control the entrance and exit from a gate with an embedded personalized code lock.
1.2 Aim/Objectives
The aim of this research work is to design and construct a simple model of an automatic sliding door and the objectives is to develop a simple model that can be transformed into a bigger project and also to understand the concepts involved in how an automatic sliding door works and to fabricate a simple model to show how the system works within the expected timeframe and with the available resources.
The major aim of this project is to design and implement a remote control door opener. To achieve this aim, the work will focus on the following objectives:
1. To develop a suitable 5v power supply
2. To design the methodology using TC4017 Decade counters
3. To Interface the remote transmitter using 555 timers
4. To Implement automatic Door control mechanism driving dc motor in both directions
1.3 Significance of the Study
This project work will be beneficial as it would help to develop the ability of our potential and also increase our knowledge in electronic design. This design methodology offers security of lives and properties. This work will also of benefit to the economy as it help to reduce crime rate thereby affecting the economy positively. In commercial setting, this can be used as a revenue source. Finally, it will serve as basic technology advancement to students in engineering field of study since it will aid students who intends to carryout similar design.
1.4 Scope of the Study
This kind of project can be used for different designs such as box, safe, gates, doors or garages. However, for the scope of this project it focuses on design and implementation of a remote control door opener. Also, the remote control (RF) would access the door within the frequency range of 38kHz.
Furthermore, the scope will include in the design a door switch using a customized remote to open doors in order to avoid unauthorized persons from entering restricted areas.
1.5 Limitation of the Study
During the process of this project design, lots of difficulties were encountered that is:
1. Finance
2. Unavailability of some raw materials for the research work.
3. Time was another serious issue which was significant in the research required for this work.
1.6 Project Report Organization
The organization of this project report is well detailed and vast in its coverage because it covers all the activities encountered during the project design. Chapter One of this work took care of the Introduction, Background, Aims and objective, significance, scope, limitations and Project report organization. Chapter Two highlight on literature review where it reviews and discusses past work of other authors on the subject matter. Chapter Three highlight design methodology. Chapter Four highlight on the implementation and testing. Chapter Five is all about the conclusions problem encountered recommendation and cost of the project.
