CHALLENGES FACING GIRL CHILD IN RURAL AREA
ABSTRACT
This study was intended to examine the challenges facing girl child in rural area. This study was guided by the following objectives; to evaluate whether the girl child is faced with challenges in the rural area, to determine the correlation between girl child educated in rural area and girl child educated in urban area and to proffer solution to the challenges facing the girl child in rural area. The study employed the descriptive and explanatory design; questionnaires in addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using the chi square statistical tool at 5% level of significance which was presented in frequency tables and percentage. The respondents under the study were 100 residents of Yola local government area in Adamawa state. The study findings revealed that the girl child is faced with challenges in the rural area; based on the findings from the study, the issue of girl child education must be taken very serious by both parents and the government by banning street hawking among school girls.
