Professor Umaru A. Pate has emerged as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State. Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s governing council, Barrister Yakubu Ruba announced this late Thursday after a rigorous selection process held at the university’s council chamber.
Professor Pate defeated 10 other candidates to become the third substantive vice-chancellor of the university and he is to succeed Professor Alhassan Muhammad Gani whose tenure ends on February 11, 2021. He had the highest score of 92.2 percent to defeat Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu, who scored 77.8 percent, and Professor Santaya Larit Kela, who came third with 75.5 percent.
The Professor of Mass Communication is the current Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, and the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Communications at the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
Barrister Ruba said the appointment was based on merit and his excellent performance in the preceding exercises, including computer-based tests, oral interaction, and other procedural.
Speaking after receiving the appointment letter, Prof. Pate thanked the council for finding him worthy to lead the university and promised to do his best to make the university a great citadel of learning.
