Speaking at the 21st and 22nd convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan represented by the Executive Secretary of NUC Professor Julius Okojie, made it known that private universities in the country are rated higher than their government counterpart.
According to him, products of private Universities excel more than those of Government institutions. He stated that majority of the scholarship awards giving by the president every year to first class graduates are won by students from private institutions.
“Development cannot be possible without good education; hence the budgetary allocation of 426 billion Naira to education out of the total national budget of about 5 trillion, a clear determination of deliberate and sustainable effort of our administration to turn things around for the better.
“The establishment of 10 more Universities by this administration has increased significantly the number of universities in the country, which hopefully will go a long way in meeting the demand of the teeming population.
“FUNNAB is fully committed and working towards the diversification to a conventional status of which agriculture will still remain his focus,” he said.
He further stated his administration’s effort and commitment to ensuring quality education in Nigeria hence the 426 426 billion budgetary allocations to the sector and called on government owned higher institutions to improve their standards and quality of graduates.
