Police Corporal Sacked For Killing Student

The police corporal, Amadi Idahosa, who allegedly shot and killed a final year student of University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ibrahim Momodu, which sparked off protests in Benin, has been dismissed by Assistant Inspector General of Police (ASP), Zone 5.

Momodu was shot on May 27 by policemen led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida Police Station, Carol Afegbai, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).

His body was buried, but was later exhumed following protest by UNIBEN students.

Police sources said Idahosa, an orderly to Afegbai, was dismissed after an orderly room trial to face prosecution at the law court.

Police sources said Idahosa was found to have pulled the trigger that killed Momodu despite earlier claims by Afegbai that she shot Ibrahim on the legs.

Reacting, police spokesman, Moses Eguaveon, said the police would not condone injustice.

“The matter is already being investigated and justice must be done. Whoever that is exonerated will be discharged. The public should watch out for justice,” Eguavoen said.

Lawyer to the family, Jefferson Uwoghiren, said, “The trial and dismissal of Amadi Idahosa is a preface to the ultimate action against him and his cohorts for the premeditate murder of Ibrahim Momodu.”
