A National Open University Special Study Centre for policemen and other Nigerians who aspire to acquire tertiary education has been inaugurated by the Nigeria Police Force.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, said the that the facility was meant to satisfy police personnel who wished to broaden their horizon through education.
Abubakar explained that it would also satisfy other members of the public who yearned for knowledge and empowerment.
He stated that the force would continue to accord education of personnel a prime place in its policies and programmes.
In his remarks, the Director of Police Education, DCP Kabiru Ibrahim, noted that the centre would empower policemen and other Nigerians, adding that the initiative was part of efforts to develop manpower resources for the nation.
He lauded the IG for his support for the policies and programmes of the Police Education Directorate, noting that since he was appointed in 2012, he had established 18 primary and two secondary schools across the country.
