As part of efforts to further improve the standard of education, the Government of Osun says plans are underway to ensure that all public school students in the state are captured through technology and given a smart card each for proper monitoring.
The smart will contain comprehensive data of all pupils which will enable the state government through the Ministry of Education to properly monitor and track each pupil and as well see their performances in both internal and external examinations at a glance.
Commissioner for Education, Hon. Folorunsho Oladoyin gave this hint on Friday during a meeting with school principals in Osogbo the state capital ahead of the resumption of the 2020/2021 academic school calendar.
The Commissioner stated further that the smart card technology will also ensure the safety of all public school pupils in the state as the state government will be able to easily supply information about any student.
The former lawmaker who reiterated government's determination to bring back the training of core values and morals into the state's educational structure hinted that no student will henceforth be promoted into the next class without passing the promotion examination.
While calling on school principals to device a means of mentoring and monitoring students through the attachment of teachers to groups of students, the Ile-Ife born politician said government will begin to organise an annual education congress where stakeholders will meet to delibrate on how to improve the sector.
He said, "The students' smart card that the state government is planning to produce for all students is something very good in the sense that we will be able to keep tabs on all our pupils.
"The smart card will go a long way in helping to monitor our students both in and outside school. We can track and monitor their academic performance at a glance because their data and everything about them can be sourced at the punch of a button.
