Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state has been praised by the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) for paying bursary to about 276,000 indigenes of the state studying in various tertiary institutions across the country.
The President of the association, Mr. Gbemileke Ogunrombi, who gave the commendation during a press conference in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, June 2, said the payment would go a long way in motivating the students to focus on their studies. He appreciated the governor for keeping to his campaign promise, saying the bursary payment came eight years after previous administrations stopped it.
According to Ogunrombi, the beneficiary students are those whose data had been captured by their various institutions and sent to the government for payment and called on other students who were yet to provide the government with their data to do so as soon as possible.
Ogunrombi, however, aired his disappointment in the state ministry of education for bypassing and sidelining the association in the process of collating the data of students and payment of the bursary, saying the ministry ought to have carried the association along in the collation process.
