Ogun State government spends N160 billion on education in 3 years

The Ogun State government has committed over N160 billion to education in the last three years. This disclosure was made yesterday by the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun at his Oke – Mosan office in Abeokuta while hosting members of the Senate Committee on Education.
The governor explained that a larger percentage of the money was expended on payments of salaries and allowances in the sector. According to Amosun, over N71 billion was spent on primary school while N50 billion was gulped by secondary education.
The governor further told the federal lawmakers that education is one of the cardinal programmes of his administration hence its place of priority in the state budget saying the state is constructing 28 model schools and maintaining 2000 primary schools. ”Education is one of our cardinal programmes. We have invested massively in the development of the sector through construction of modern facilities. We have made education at both primary and secondary school levels free and compulsory.

The leader of the team and chairman of Senate Committee on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije commended Amosun for his commitment to the development of education in the state.

Any effort to develop our children is a noble one because children are the leaders of tomorrow. We must therefore secure that tomorrow today through adequate investment in their education,” he said.
The committee members were in the state to inspect federal government projects in the area of education.
