NUT threatens strike action over abduction of students in Kankara

Following the recent abduction of over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to improve security around schools across the country.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday, December 15 by the Secretary-General of NUT, Dr. Mike Ene. The Union decried the re-emerging incidence of schools invasion and abduction of teachers and students across the country’s educational institutions, and called on the government to ensure 24-hour adequate security.

The union further stated that, if the security issue isn't properly handled, it could lead to a disruption of school activities and alter the 2019/2020 academic calendar.
