The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, has said that the commission will henceforth ensure effective regulation of universities to forestall any breakdown of the system.
Okojie stated this on Monday in Abuja at the opening of an exhibition as part of activities marking the 50+1 anniversary celebrations of the NUC.
He said, “We keep talking about the university system’s failure. It is a grand design to keep us low and down and NUC will not let that happen. From now on, it is going to be effective regulation.”
The Executive Secretary also noted that without the NUC, there would not be a proper university setting.
He said the commission was doing well in spite of the very difficult circumstances it was in, adding that the commission was determined to surmount all challenges hampering the running of an effective system.
According to Okojie, NUC at 51 is a success story and only those who cannot recognise milestones in their lives have problems.
He said, “We started with only six departments, now we have 11, this is a reflection of the needs of the moment.”
