NSUK Establishes Academic Programmes in Community Health

This was reported by Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, when he received the Board Chairman of the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria, Sule Galadima Toma, at the University’s Senate chamber on Thursday.

Professor Suleiman highlighted the board chairman’s visit as timely because the programmes’ establishment will coincide with the launch of the new College of Medical and Health Sciences next year.

He guaranteed that the University will immediately begin the processes of installing the programmes in accordance with NUC benchmarks and quality standards.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced the hiring of Professor Yakubu Boyi Ngwai, Director of Research, Innovation, and Enterprise, and Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Madaki, Director of Health Services, to work with the board and develop a work plan and timeframe for the program’s launch.

Earlier, the Board Chairman of the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria, Sule Galadima Toma, informed the Vice-Chancellor that they were in the University for advocacy and to seek management approval to mount the three key programmes in the University to improve the standard of training of Nigeria’s over 400 000 community health workers.

Mr. Galadima noted that prospective community health workers have to travel to Cotonou, Republic of Benin, to study, but the establishment of programmes at NSUK will help a lot of individuals who want to learn and improve their expertise.

The Vice-Chancellor was presented with approved NUC benchmarks, and the visiting team was given souvenirs.
