The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, says the institution is faced with infrastructural problems and societal perception of the institution’s certificate as inferior to those earned in the conventional universities.
He disclosed that, “we lack funds to pay facilitators and also have challenges in course materials”, at the convocation of the institution recently held at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
According to him, the institution is making tremendous progress in all strata, one of which include the instant award of certificates to all the graduating students right in the convocation hall.
The NOUN boss stressed that the school is in the best position to utilise the Nigeria resource and human capital in order for them to attain educational requirements adding that, “the Open University is well prepared to accommodate any upsurge that will come because we believe in synergy and collaboration”.
Speaking on how to meet the future challenges, the Vice-Chancellor said, “we have already made our strategic plans and we are collaborating with other universities all over the country”.
Meanwhile, the university authority has inaugurated the varsity’s alumni body, just as it raised a 12-man electoral committee to work out modalities for membership of the body. According to the Vice Chancellor, the committee, headed by Ogechi Godwin, from the Kaduna centre of the institution, has six months to conclude its assignment.
