Students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have rejected the increment of tuition fees for both degree and postgraduate students by the university management.
The students in a statement issued on Monday, January 2, and jointly signed by some of its leaders in the institution described the hike as outrageous and ill-considered while calling for a total reversal of the increased fee to the status quo.
It was gathered that the fees were reviewed from #36,000 to #55,000 for new undergraduate students excluding, exam registration of #1,500 and project fee #25,000. Postgraduate fees were increased from #35,000 to #61,000.
According to the students, they carried out independent research and reviews from students who run degree programs with other Universities, including some private universities, and it was discovered that none was paying as much as NOUN is charging for tuition.
Other NOUN students also took to social media, to ask the school to reverse the hike or “expect the mother of all protests”.
