No Governor Can Proscribe Union Activities - EBSU ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ebonyi State University (EBSU) Chapter has remarked that no Governor can proscribe the union because it is a registered body and operates under a charter.

Chairman of the Union Chapter, Dr Ikechukwu Igwenyi made this statement on Sunday in the state capital. He stressed that labour issues such as the demands being made by the union belong to the exclusive list category.

Recall that the state Governor, David Umahi had proscribed the activities of ASUU, NASU and other bodies in the institution.

The union chairman, who maintained that EBSU ASUU is a branch of the national body, said that ASUU was aware of the current situation in the institution.

Dr Igwenyi alleged that the university workers are being owed four months salaries and encouraged them to remain resolute until their demands are met by the government.

He further called on the state government to improve university education in the state by giving more priority to the sector.
