The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2023 SSCE results. The NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dantali Wushishi, announced the results on Tuesday October 10th, 2023 at the NECO Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Giving a break down of the performance by candidates, the Registrar, stated that the total number of candidates who actually sat for the examination was a total 1,196,985 candidates; 616,398 males and 580,587 females sat for the examinations, adding that 1,543 candidates with special needs also sat for the examinations. He said out of the total number of candidates who sat for the examinations, 737,308 representing 61.60 percent candidates passed with five Credits and above, 1,013,611 representing 84.68 percent candidates had five Credits irrespective of English and Mathematics.
The examination council revealed that 93 schools were implicated in large-scale cheating, while 52 supervisors were suggested for blacklisting due to inadequate supervision and their involvement in aiding and abetting during the examinations. Wushishi stated that the schools in question would be summoned to the Council for a discussion, following which suitable sanctions would be imposed.
There are a total of 1,542 candidates classified as having Special Needs. This includes 913 candidates who experience hearing impairment, 162 candidates with visual impairment, 103 candidates with Albinism, 61 candidates with Autism, 149 candidates with low vision, and 154 candidates with Adermatoglyphia, a condition characterized by the absence of fingerprints.
