NDU Students Flee as Host Community Clash With the Sch. Management

Three persons have been reportedly dead and many injured following a clash between security operatives and the indigene of Amassoma community, Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa State.

Niger Delta University (NDU) was allegedly shut down by some women whose names were removed from the NDU's payroll after they were indicated by the ongoing public sector reforms of Governor Seriake Dickson.

It was reported that the community women hired a welder to seel the university gate until their names are returned to the payroll. However, the Administration tried to negotiate with them inother to allow school activities continue. But they refused. 

On Tuesday, trouble started when the indigenes found out that some security operatives opened the gate without their consent. They angrily started protesting towards the school gate. Following this, the armed security opened tear gas on them. 

Many students of the institution had to flee for their lives. While some escaped through the forest, others went through the rivers.
