The national association of Nigerians students (NANS) convention that held on Thursday, December 4, in Abuja was rocked with violence as gunmen believed to be cult groups invaded the premise.
According to reports, the convention was held at the Old Parade ground, Area 10, Garki, Abuja in respect of the election of new executive members after the expiration of the tenure of the former exco members.
Trouble reportedly started when one of the zonal coordinators of the NANS from a different faction, stormed the convention venue with armed men to stop the accreditation process. The armed suspected cultists engaged the men of the Department of State Security (DSS) in a gun battle, and some of the DSS had to take to their heels and retreated as they were outnumbered.
Over 20 persons were said to have been injured, with one in a critical condition taken to the nearest hospital.
