MTN Award Scholarship To Over 500 Students From Southern Nigeria

MTN Foundation (MTNF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) initiative vehicle of MTN Nigeria has continued to positively impact the lives of thousands of Nigerian undergraduate students since 2009 via award of scholarship scheme to Science & Technology Students and the visually impaired students.

The Foundation on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Celestine Onwuliri International Conference Center FUTO, gave Scholarship awards to about 500 Science students amongst them were 10 Futoites and 100 visually impaired students from different tertiary institutions in the Southern Nigeria.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director MTNF, Mr. Dennis Okoro stated that the award scheme is a way MTNF rewards hard work and excellence to the Nigerian youth, especially the physically challenged who have demonstrated great ability in disability. He promised MTNF’s unreserved support to the students’ in-view of their hard work.

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Prof. Chigozie Asiabaka represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. (Mrs) Rose N. Nwabueze, commended MTN Foundation on this laudable gesture which he explained as a reputable act of responsibility to MTN’s Corporate Social responsibility (CRS) initiative to the Nigerian Society.

Prof. Chigozie Asiabaka congratulated the award recipients, urging them to keep-up the good performance. He however, reiterated FUTO’s continued partnership to the Foundation’s award ceremony.

Important dignitaries who graced the occasion were: Prof. (Mrs) S.C Chiemeke- the Director ICT, University of Benin, Prof. Uchenna Nzewi- the Director CUDIMAC & International Relations represented the Vice-chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Hon (Mrs) Kate C. Okoli- Special Asst. to Imo state Governor on special citizens (Disabled), Hon (Mrs) Getrude Oduka - SA to Governor’s wife on Women Affairs represented Imo state Governor’s wife, Prof. John O. E. Otaigbe- representative of the Vice-Chancellor University of Port Harcourt and Ifeanyichukwu Udom- Regional Sales Manager MTN.
