Monarch faults FG’s posture on missing OAU lecturer

The Owa of Otan Ayegbaju, Oba Lukman Fadipe, has said the Federal Government and the Minister of Education have not shown enough concern about Prof. James Olomo, who has been missing since October 20, 2013.

The monarch said this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Thursday.

Olomo, a professor of Nuclear Physics at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife travelled to Eket, Akwa Ibom State on October 17, 2013 and had not been found since then.

Fadipe said, “There has been no good report on the whereabouts of Prof. James Olomo since he was declared missing. We have yet to see him or hear anything about him.

“This is sad. It is sad because I don’t think the government is really concerned about the case. Prof. Olomo has done a lot for the country and the government should be concerned about him and his family.

“The Federal Government employed him as a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University and it has not really shown much interest in the case. I am sure they would have used every means to find him if he was a politician.”

The monarch urged President Goodluck Jonathan to direct all the concerned agencies to expedite action on the search for the missing don, saying the President, a former university teacher, should show more concern about one of his former colleagues.

The Olomo family of Risawe Anlerin Compound in Otan Ayegbaju, in a statement issued on the missing don said nobody had established contact with the family regarding the lecturer.

The statement signed by Chief A. O. Olomo reads in part, “James Olomo, a professor of Physics at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State undertakes safety advice for oil companies. He was in Eket for one of such engagements as Radiation Safety Adviser when this unfortunate incident happened.

“The family, in conjunction with his employers, OAU, has made efforts to establish contact with him since October 20, 2013 without success. The matter has been reported at the Eket Police Division and all security agencies in the area have instituted an investigation into the incident.

“But the family is disturbed that though authorities are working on the possibility of a kidnap, nobody has contacted the family, and no news has been heard about him.”
