Chief Wike Nyesom, the supervising Minister of Education who was represented by a director in the Federal Scholarship Board, Mrs Ifeoma Agunwa, at a four-day capacity building workshop for South-East primary school teachers in Abakiliki has made it clear that no meaningful achievement can be made with the present state of our educational system.
He stated that for the country to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and national development we must build a robust education system. According to him education is important because it develops and grows the mind and a man that has little or no ability to read and comprehend.
He commended the organizers of the workshop: The National Action Committee on Read Campaign and the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the president on MDGs who said that the aim of the workshop was to build the reading capacity of the primary school children.
