MDCN Assessment Exam for Foreign-Trained Graduates 2024

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has announced the assessment examination for foreign-trained Medical and Dental graduates for the 2024 session. This exam is a crucial step for those wishing to practice medicine or dentistry in Nigeria.

Exam Schedule and Venue

The exam will be held from Wednesday, 18th September to Thursday, 19th September 2024 at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Training Institutions: Candidates must be trained in institutions listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (www.wdoms.org). This also includes Nigeria-trained doctors who failed to complete their internship within 24 months of graduation or those from schools that have lost accreditation.
  2. Degree Verification: Candidates must hold medical or dental degrees from approved institutions. These degrees will be verified by the Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC).
  3. Practising License: Candidates must provide evidence of eligibility to practice in their country of training, including a current practising license and a Certificate of Good Standing from the relevant medical or dental regulatory authority.

Examination Format

The assessment consists of the following components:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT): Multiple Choice Questions covering all aspects of Basic and Clinical Sciences in Medicine and Dentistry.
  2. Clinical Examinations: Includes Long and Short Cases or Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE).
  3. Practical/Clinical Exams: For Dental candidates, exams will cover areas like Restorative Dentistry, Oral Surgery, and Child Dental Health.
  4. English Language Paper: For graduates from non-English speaking schools.

Examination Fees

  • Nigerian Candidates: N150,000
  • Non-Nigerian Candidates: N250,000
  • Additional Charges (Dental materials): N40,000 (for Dental candidates only)

How to Apply

Applicants must register and complete the online forms, as well as make payments through the MDCN Portal.

Required Documents for Application

Candidates need to upload the following documents on the portal:

  1. Stamped EPIC identification form.
  2. Proof of payment of required fees.
  3. Academic qualifications (GCE/SSCE/NECO with five credit passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at not more than two sittings; medical/dental degree certificates).
  4. Relevant pages of International Passport (Visa, Arrival & Departure stamps).
  5. Colour passport-size photographs.
  6. Birth certificate or statutory declaration of age.
  7. Current practising license/evidence of eligibility to practice in the country of training.
  8. Certificate of Good Standing from the relevant regulatory authority to be sent to [email protected].

Submission Deadline

The closing date for submitting application forms is 31st July 2024.

Important Notes

  • Medical/Dental students who have not received their degree certificates should not apply.
  • Medical candidates must bring their stethoscope, diagnostic set, patella hammer, and tape rule.
  • Dental candidates should bring their mouth mirror, probes, tweezers, etc.
  • The venue for the CBT part of the exam will be communicated before the exam date.
