List Of Masters Courses Offered In UNILAG And Their Requirements For Admission

It is no news that every student upon graduation seeks to further his or her education in that same field or another as the case may be.

We have painstakingly listed out the list of postgraduate courses offered in UNILAG (University of Lagos) and their entry or admission requirements as approved by the school authority in conjunction with NUC (Nigerian University Commission.

This post talks about the available masters courses that are available for admission for the 2024/2025 academic session as well as their respective admission requirement per PG programme.

Please note that some M.Sc. courses in UNILAG requires working experience as a requirement or added advantage.

Master of Aquatic Resource & Pollution Management (MARPM) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in Biological Sciences, Education Science, Engineering Technology, Earth Sciences or other Science disciplines from this University or any other recognized institution.

Master of Applied Geophysics (MAG) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

(i) Bachelor’s honours degree with at least a second class (lower division) honours in Physics, Geophysics or Geology. Candidates with Postgraduate Dioploma in Geophysics can also apply

(ii) For Ph.D. Geology or Ph.D. Geophysics a M.Sc. degree CGPA of 4.00 and above in each of them is required for

Master of Business Administration (MBA) (Full-Time Part-Time and Executive)

Entry Requirements:

Below are the requirements for admission into the MBA programmes:

Every applicant for admission into the MBA (FULL TIME) programme must have
i. Five credits in ‘O’ Level subjects, including English and Mathematics

ii. A Bachelor’s honours degree or HND (minimum of upper credit); however, possession of any of the professional qualifications recognized by the University Senate (such as ACA, ACIA, ACIS,ACII, ACIB and CIPM) shall be an added advantage

iii. To satisfy the School of Postgraduate Studies and Faculty of Business Administration in a selection process before admission

iv. To satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Every applicant for admission into the MBA (PART TIME) programme must have
i. Five credits in ‘O’ Level subjects, including English and Mathematics

ii. A Bachelor’s honours degree or HND (minimum of upper credit); however, possession of any of the professional qualifications recognized by the University Senate (such as ACA, ACIA, ACIS, ACII, ACIB and CIPM) shall be an added advantage

iii. At least 3 years post qualification work experience at a managerial position

iv. To satisfy the School of Postgraduate Studies and Faculty of Business Administration in a selection process before admission

v. To satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Every applicant for admission into the MBA (EXECUTIVE) (WEEKEND ONLY) programme must have:
i. Five credits in ‘O’ Level subjects, including English and Mathematics

ii. A Bachelor’s honours degree or HND (minimum of upper credit); however, possession of any of the professional qualifications recognized by the University Senate (such as ACA, ACIA, ACIS,ACII, ACIB and CIPM) shall be an added advantage

iii. At least 7 years post qualification work experience at a managerial position

iv. To satisfy the School of Postgraduate Studies and Faculty of Business Administration in a selection process before admission

v. To satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Master of Banking and Finance (MBF)(Part-Time)

Entry Requirements:

The MBF degree programme is open to candidate with

i. Bachelor’s honours degree (at least Second Class Lower Division) in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration or Management from this University or any other recognized University.

ii. A Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and / or Finance from University of Lagos.

iii. Bachelor’s honours degree (at least Second Class Lower Division) in other non-finance related discipline from this University or any other recognized University with a professional qualification in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Marketing, Insurance or Stockbroking such as ACA, ACCA, ICMA, ACIB, ACIS or MBA.

Master of Conflict Management (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in any discipline of the University of Lagos or any other recognized institution.

Master in Criminology (M.Crim) (Part-time and Full-time)

i. This Programme is designed to run for three Semesters for Full-Time students and four semesters for part-time students.

ii. Part-time lectures will hold on weekends and late evenings and candidates will be required to serve an internship in cognate organizations for a period of three months.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates will be eligible for admission if they possess a first degree in the Social Sciences/Humanities, and any other discipline from a recognized University. Preference will be given to applicants who are currently serving in the Police and other security agencies.

Master of Development Finance (MDF) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirements:

i. Bachelor’s honours degree (at least Second Class Lower Division) in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration or Management from this University or any other recognized University.

ii. Holders of MBA degree (with specialization in Finance) with a Bachelor’s honours degree of this University or any other recognized University.

iii. A Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and / or Finance from University of Lagos.

iv. Bachelor’s honours degree in other non-finance related discipline from this University or any other recognized University with a professional qualification in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Marketing, Insurance or Stock broking such as ACA, ACCA, ICMA, ACIB, ACIS or MBA.

Master in Diplomacy and Strategic Studies (MDSS) (Part- Time)

Entry Requirement:

Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in any discipline obtained from the University of Lagos or any other recognized institution.

Master of Dispute Resolution (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in any discipline of the University of Lagos or any other recognized institution.

Master of Environmental Design

The Master of Environmental Design (MED) Programme leads to the First professional degree in Architecture.

To qualify for admission to the MED programme, a candidate must have any of the following:
i. Bachelor’s honours degree: B.Sc., BES in Architecture or equivalent from this University or any other recognized University with minimum of second class lower degree

ii. Satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Master of Environmental Management (M.E.M.) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

The course is open to candidates who possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in Science, Science-based/ related, Engineering or Environmental Science courses of this University or other approved Universities.

Master of Facilities Management (MFM) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirements:

Candidates must, in addition to meeting the general requirements of the University and the Postgraduate School for admission, satisfy the following specific requirements:
a) Possess a good B.Sc. degree in Estate Management OR Architecture, Building, Quantity surveying, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical and Material Engineering and other related disciplines from University of Lagos or any other recognized University.

b) Graduates of other disciplines with valid proof of 3 years employment in a Facility Management related job in a Facility Management organization, may be considered.

c) Possess at least three years’ post qualification experience in their respective fields NYSC inclusive). Membership of a relevant professional body – NIA, NIESV, NIOB, NSE, NIQS or their foreign equivalents will be an added advantage.

d) Achieve satisfactory performance at an entrance examination and or a selection process as may be deemed necessary.

Master of Geographic Information System (MGIS) Part-Time

Master of Geo-informatics Information Technology (MGIT) (Full-Time/Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in Surveying, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Geography, Town Planning, Estate Management, Forestry, Insurance, Finance or Actuarial Science from this University or any other recognized institution, with other disciplines approved by the Department.

Master of Housing and development management

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must, in addition to meeting the general requirements of the University and the Postgraduate School for admission, satisfy any of the following requirements:

i. Be a holder of a Bachelor’s honours degree of the University of Lagos in Estate Management or its equivalent obtained from any other recognized University

ii. Be a holder of a first degree in any of the following disciplines: Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Sociology, Business Administration, Economics, Building, Accounting, Urban and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Arts and Sciences

iii. Be a holder of a Post-Graduate Diploma in Estate Management with full professional registration with any of the following: Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Council of Nigeria, The Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, and other similar Registration Councils in related disciplines in Nigeria, or their foreign equivalents from.

iv. Membership of relevant professional bodies such as Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Council of Nigeria, The Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, and other similar Registration Councils in related disciplines in Nigeria, or their foreign equivalents will be an advantage.

v. Must possess at least three (3) years professional experience in the housing sector.

vi. All candidates may be required, as a condition of admission to undergo a selection process

Master of Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirements:

Admission to the MILR degree is open to candidates who possess Bachelor’s honours degree of the University of Lagos or other approved universities, and who in addition have at least two (2) years experience in the field of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. In some cases, applicants with appropriate professional qualifications may be considered.

Professional qualification such as CIPM, CIPD, SHRM or IBCHCP will be an added advantage.

Master of Information Technology (M.I.T.) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

i. An applicant must have a Bachelor’s honours degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology.

ii. Bachelor’s honours degree in other related fields besides those specified in (a) above.

iii. Candidates may be required to satisfy the Department in a selection process.

Master of International Law and Diplomacy (MILD) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

(1) Master of International Law and Diplomacy (MILD)

i. The Programme is open to Candidates with a Bachelors honours degree of the University of Lagos and other approved Universities with a minimum of Third Class (3rd Class).

ii. All fields of Study

iii. Candidates may be required to satisfy the Department and School of Postgraduate Studies in a selection process.

Master of International Relations & Strategic Studies (MISS)

Entry Requirements:

(i) Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in any discipline of the University of Lagos or any other recognized institution.

(ii) Candidates for admission to this programme must be Foreign Service Officers already admitted into the Diplomatic Cadre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) (Part-Time)

The Master of Landscape Architecture is a Professional Degree Programme focused at providing specialized skills in the field of landscape architecture.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for admission into the MLA programme, the candidate must:
i. Hold a BLA, B.Sc. (Arch), B.Arch or its equivalent, BFA, B.Sc. (URP), B.Sc. (Geography, Botany, Forestry and Agriculture) with honours degree of the University of Lagos or any other recognized University

ii. Hold the Postgraduate Degree Diploma in Environmental Design (PGDED) of University or its equivalent with third class degree in Architecture

(c) Satisfy the special admission requirements of the programme such as submission of a portfolio of previous design works and / or attend an interview

(d) Satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Master of Laws (LL.M) (Full Time/Part Time)

Entry Requirements:

i. In order to be eligible for admission, a candidate must hold a Bachelor’s honours degree in Law of this University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division. However a candidate with a Third Class may be considered for part time programme

ii. Candidates will be required to undergo selection processes of written and oral tests.

iii. Other qualification (professional) BL

Master of Legal Studies (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in any discipline of the University of Lagos or any other recognized institution.

Master of Managerial Psychology (MMP) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirements:

To qualify for admission into MMP Programme, the candidate must:

i. Hold B.Sc. (Hons) Degree in Psychology, or any other Social Sciences, including Business administration, from a recognized University.

ii. Hold honours degree from reputable University (i.e. approved University) in disciplines other than those mentioned above and in addition must show evidence of cognate experience of not less than 3 years in a managerial position.

iii. Satisfy other special requirements such as qualifying examination if necessary.

iv. Satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Master of Natural Resources Management (MNRM) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

i. The programme is open to candidates who possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in Sciences, Education Science, Engineering, Technology Earth Sciences and other related disciplines of the University of Lagos or any other approved University.

ii. Candidates are required to satisfy all other School of Postgraduate Studies.

Master of Process Engineering (MPE) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirements:

To qualify for admission to the MPE programme, candidates must:

i. Have a minimum of Third Class Bachelor’s (Honours) Degree in Science or Engineering from the University of Lagos or from any other approved University.

ii. Be gainfully employed with at least five years of verifiable industry experience in the chemical and allied, petroleum and/or manufacturing industry.

iii. Satisfy the basic admission requirements of the University of Lagos.

iv. Satisfy the basic admission requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos.

v. Candidates may be required to participate in a qualifying or selection test (written and/or oral) to ascertain the aptitude of applicants.

vi. Selected applicants will tender a letter showing their employers permission to attend lectures.

Master of Professional Ethics (MPE) (Part-Time)

Qualifications required for the Programme:
A minimum of Second Class Lower Division degree

Field of studies acceptable:
Holders of Bachelors honours degree in any discipline from a recognized University

Professional Qualifications required for the Programme:

Master of Public Administration (MPA) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

The four-semesters MPA (Part-Time) programme is open to applicants who already possess a Bachelor’s honours degree with honours of this University or other approved Universities.

All candidates will be required to go through a selection process in both written essay and computer based test.

Master of Public Health (MPH) (Full-Time)

Entry Requirements:

i. The programme is open to candidates who possess an MBBS/BDS from the University of Lagos or any other recognized University.

ii. Candidates must have completed the National Youth Service Corps programme (or obtained exemption from doing so)

iii. Candidates must have a minimum of three years’ post degree experience in medicine/dentistry or allied health fields in industry, or at federal, state or local government council level. Candidates will be required to go through a selection process.

Master of Public and International Affairs (MPIA)

Entry Requirements:

Master of Public and International Affairs (MPIA) Part-Time:- The four-semesters MPIA (Part-Time) programme is open to applicants who already possess a Bachelors honours degree (minimum of Third Class) in any discipline of this University or other approved Universities. All candidates will be required to go through a selection process in both written essay and computer based test.

Master of Research and Public Policy

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Admission into Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) (Full-Time):-

  • Applications are being invited from suitably qualified candidates of this University and other recognized universities for admission into the University collaborative Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) degree programme for 2016/2017 session.
  • The degree programme is in collaboration with Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) and twelve other African Universities.
  • It is a four semester Full Time Programme.
  • To be considered for admission, all candidates must possess a Bachelors honours degree of any discipline of this University or other universities with a minimum of 2nd class lower division.
  • The final selection is by oral interview.

Master of Risk Management (MRM) Part-Time

This course is open to graduates in any discipline from the University of Lagos or any other recognized University.

Master of Security and Intelligence Studies

Entry Requirements:

To qualify for admission to Master degree of Security and Intelligence Studies (MSIS) programme a candidate must:

i. Hold a honours Bachelor Degree or equivalent of any discipline from this University or any other recognized University.

ii. Have at least three years working experience and professional qualification in security and protective discipline from a recognized University or professional Institute.

iii. Satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

iv. And in addition candidates may be required to satisfy the department in a selection exercise.

Master in Teaching of French as a Foreign Language (MTFFL) (Part-Time)

To qualify for admission to this Programme, the candidate must:

(i) Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in French or French Education from University of Lagos or any other recognized institution.

(ii) Candidate must provide evidence of Language Immersion programme from recognized French Language Centre.

Master of Arts in Translation (MTL) (Part-Time)

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree in French from the University of Lagos or any other recognized institution.

Masters in Transportation Planning and Management (MTP&M) (Part Time)

Entry Requirement:

To qualify for admission, a candidate must satisfy the following requirements:

i. Be a holder of the Bachelor’s honours degree of the University of Lagos in Urban and Regional Planning or its equivalent obtained from any other recognized University.

ii. Holders of the B.Sc. degree in any of the following disciplines: Architecture, Estate Management, Building, Geography, Geography and Planning, Sociology, Forestry, Civil Engineering, Surveying, Law, Sciences, Demography, Cartography, Landscape Architecture, Geographic Information System, and other related disciplines.

iii. Holders of Postgraduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning or full professional registration with any of the following: the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, Architects Registration Council of Nigeria and other similar Registration Councils in related disciplines.

iv. Satisfy all other requirements as stipulated in the regulations of the School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos.

Master of Urban Design (MUD) (Part-Time)

Entry/Admission Requirements:

To qualify for admission to the MUD programme, a candidate must have any of the following:

i. Holders of Bachelor’s honours degree in Architecture from this University or any other recognised University in design oriented programmes such as: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning its equivalent;

ii. Holders of Postgraduate Degree Diploma in Environmental Design (PGDED) of this University or its equivalent

iii. Satisfy the special admission requirements of the Department of Architecture such as submission of portfolio of previous design works and/or attend an interview.

iv. Candidates are required to satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies, SPGS.
