Scholarships are available each year for fee-paying international students applying for an international Master's programme at Uppsala University. Please note that the scholarships are highly competitive; only about 2% of those who apply are granted a scholarship.

About Uppsala University

The initiative in this matter came from the Primate of the Catholic Church of Sweden, Archbishop Jakob Ulvsson of Uppsala. The new University was small, having at most 50 students and a handful of professors.

Aim and Benefits of Uppsala University Global Scholarship

The scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University. It is for Master’s programmes that start on 28 August 2024 and are offered during the current admission round. The scholarships do not cover living expenses.

Requirements for Uppsala University Global Scholarship Qualification

  • You must be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
  • You must demonstrate academic talent and show interest in being in an educational environment.
  • You can only be awarded an Uppsala University Global Scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
  • You must have applied for the Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
  • You must meet the entry requirements for the Master’s programme you applied for. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.

Aim and Benefits of The King Carl Gustaf Scholarship

The King Carl Gustaf Scholarship is aimed at students who live in unsafe and dangerous conditions in areas affected by conflict or natural disasters. The scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University. It is for Master’s programmes that start on 28 August 2024 and are offered during the current admission round. The scholarships do not cover living expenses.

Requirements for The King Carl Gustaf Scholarship Qualification

  • You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Iraq, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria or Yemen.
  • You must show why you are particularly vulnerable and therefore in need of the educational environment at Uppsala University, as well as that you have the academic talent required.
  • You can only be awarded a King Carl Gustaf scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
  • You must have applied for the Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
  • You must meet the entry requirements for the programme you applied to. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.

How to Apply

In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must first submit an application for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Uppsala University at www.universityadmissions.se between 17 October 2022 and 16 January 2023. Uppsala University’s programme must be ranked as your first priority of choice. The scholarship application period starts after this step. Read more about how to rank your selections.

The application period for scholarships provided by Uppsala University for prospective students is from 17 January to 1 February 2023. Therefore, the link to the online scholarship application form will be found on 17 January 2023.

However, application for admission is open. You must have applied and received admission to get this scholarship so apply today.
