Man jailed for life over r*pe and robbery of a UNILAG student

A Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, sitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday, April 5, sentenced one Collins Okechukwu to life imprisonment for raping and robbing a 25-year-old student at the University of Lagos, Akoka.

It was gathered that the convict committed the crime on December 17, 2017, at 9 pm behind the institution's Faculty of Arts Building. Okechukwu was said to have robbed the student of her phones, money, and a gold chain, and was apprehended one year after the incident after getting invited to the victim's supposed birthday party.

Delivering judgment, Justice Abiola Soladoye said the prosecution proved the charges of rape and robbery against Okechukwu beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced him to life imprisonment for rape, and 21 years imprisonment for robbery.

The Judge also warned women against giving out their phone numbers to strange people for unnecessary frolicking.
