The Federal Government has approved the establishment of College of Health Sciences for the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, made this announcement when he inaugurated the Governing Council of the new college in Abuja on Friday.
Okojie said the NUC, in approving the college to be sited at Otukpo, considered the fact that the programme would be relevant to the needs of the environment.
According to him, as a centre of excellence, I am sure it will add value to academics and the entire society.
Okogie assured that adequate manpower and facilities would be provided for the effective teaching and training of its medical personnel.
He added that the products of the institution would address the shortfall in medical and paramedical personnel in the country.
He told the institute to assess N2.5bn TETFUND to build projects for the new college.
Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Prof. Eugene Okpere, promised to achieve the mission and goals of the new college.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, Sen. Anthony Manzo, and the Director General, Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, Lagos, Prof. Innocent Ujah attended the ceremony.
Others were the Director General, National Agency for the Control of AIDs, Prof. John Idoko and Prof. Francis Uba of University of Jos.
