8) School of Nursing, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (SON UCTH)

School of Nursing, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital is a Federal school of Nursing offering all basic and post basic nursing programmes. Admission into SON UCTH is via JAMB. The admission form is obtainable from the SON UCTH portal.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Admission into the school is by entrance examination: Written and Interview. Male and female are eligible to take the entrance examination, which is organized by the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
  • Candidates must have had full Secondary School Education and possess Senior Secondary Certificate or its equivalent with five (5) ‘credits’ at no more than two sittings. These credits must be in the following subject: Mathematics, English language, Biology or Health Science and any other two subjects.
  • The possession of a Diploma in Community Health from an accredited college/school of Health Technology or Certificate in Community Health Extension may be considered for those who do not possess the requisite 5 credits.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

SON UCTH admission forms for the Entrance Examination into the school are sold every year from April to June. The entrance takes place in July, while the interview is usually scheduled for August. Final selection is based on the results of these examinations; and successful candidates are expected to resume training in the school in October, first week.

Duration of Training: One and half Calendar Year.

Registration Obtainable: Registered Midwife (RM)

3. POST BASIC PSYCHIATRIC NURSING PROGRAMME

Admission Requirements: The Candidate must be a Registered Nurse and must also meet all institutional Requirements.

Institutions of Learning: Eight (8) School of Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing in Nigeria.

Duration of Training: One and half Calendar Year.

Registration Obtainable: Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) .

4. BACHELOR OF NURSING SCIENCE DEGREE PROGRAMME (B.N.Sc.)

Admission Requirements: Five Credits level passes in WASC/SSCE or its equivalent at not more than two sittings. Subject must include English Language, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics. Candidate must also meet all institutional requirements.

Please note that the various schools of Nursing in Nigeria have the power to fix their school fees for both fresh and returning students, nevertheless, the NMC still has the influence of placing a ceiling in order to prevent exorbitant fees by the schools of Nursing.
