The Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has opened an investigation into the death of a final year student of the institution, Asefon Nifemi Bernard, who allegedly fell into a soakaway.
The university acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mojeed Olaide Liasu, made the disclosure on Tuesday, April 27, while addressing the leadership of the South West Zone of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by the Deputy Coordinator, South West, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman.,
According to reports, the Department of Animal Nutrition and Biotechnology student died after falling into a soakaway in his hostel on Thursday, April 22, while attempting to switch on the electricity.
Liasu who acknowledged that the death of the student was unfortunate and a rude shock, said the university management was pained at the occurrence and are committed to getting to the root cause of the matter to prevent future occurrence.
He further called on the students’ leaders to educate their members on responsible unionism and discourage the destruction of public property at the slightest provocation.
It was also gathered that students had shut the gates of the institution in protest of the Nifemi death.
