Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, is broadening its academic offerings with the introduction of six new degree programmes, as announced by the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Razaq Kalilu. This announcement came during the grand finale of the university’s 16th convocation ceremony held at the Great Hall.
Under the leadership of Prof Kalilu, LAUTECH is vigorously pursuing its mission to enhance its educational landscape to meet the vision set by its Visitor, Governor Seyi Makinde. The university, which last year founded the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences with four initial programmes, has now expanded further. The new courses introduced include Psychology, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Yoruba, Theatre Arts, and Political Science. Additionally, a new Faculty of Law has been established, ready to welcome students to its Law programme.
All seven of these new programmes underwent a Resource Verification in March, as part of the process for gaining approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC). The university is poised to welcome new students into these programmes during the current academic session, pending final clearance from the NUC.
The ceremony also featured words of encouragement from the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof Ayodeji Omole, who inspired the graduates to embody the principles of their alma mater. He urged them to act as ambassadors of knowledge, integrity, excellence, service, and progress. “Carry the torch of learning with pride,” he advised, “and let your actions reflect the high quality of education you have received at LAUTECH.”
This expansion marks a significant step in LAUTECH’s commitment to providing a diverse and comprehensive educational environment, ensuring that its students are well-prepared to meet the challenges of today’s dynamic world.
