A group called Concerned Stakeholders of the Lagos State University, Ojo has criticized the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olarenwaju Fagbohun for his decision to conduct electronic voting for the selection committee for the next VC.
The group wrote a letter to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighting the need for transparency in constituting the selection committee for the next Vice-Chancellor.
According to the concerned group, the VC had sent notice of senate meeting without an agenda and was trying to elect representatives hurriedly with the aim of imposing preselected members.
The letter stated that it was questionable that Prof. Fagbohun wanted the election process of the Senate to be done virtually when the school claimed it was ready to reopen and had been so certified by the government.
The group called on Governor Sanwo-Olu to ask the Vice-Chancellor to begin the process that would lead to the emergence of aspirants for membership of the selection committee and they are to be elected on the floor of a physical Senate meeting. They further added that such exercise should be conducted in one of the spacious halls of the university in order to comply with COVID-19 management protocols.
