The Lagos State University Students Union on Wednesday said that returning students of the institution had yet to accept the new tuition fee as directed by the university’s Governing Council.
Only the 900 newly admitted students for the 2013/2014 academic session had paid the fee according to the union president Mr Nurudeen Yusuf.
The university’s Governing Council had on June 20 released a breakdown of the tuition fee as N76 and 750 to N158 and 250 for categories of students.
The breakdown was sequel to the June 11 reduction of the tuition by between 34 per cent and 60 per cent.
The reduction was directed by the state government.
According to Yusuf, the total number of students who have paid the fee should have been more than 2,000, if returning students had complied.
The students are insisting that the fee should be reduced to N46,500 fro returning students, while fresher students should pay N65,500.
The tuition fee was increased from N25,000 in 201 to N198,000 fro humanities and education, while medical students pay N350,000.
