LASU ASUU Chapter Gives Another 14-day Ultimatum To LASG:
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University (LASU) chapter has given another 14 days ultimatum to the Lagos State government to resolve the issues that is affecting the progress of the institution.
Addressing journalists at the Faculty of Law conference room of the institution on Thursday, the ASUU Ibadan Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Adesola Nasir, explained that the core issues were the reversal of the high school fee regime.
He stressed that students’ enrolment continues to drop yearly due to the high fees ranging from N197, 000 to N350, 000. He noted that the annual enrolment of 2001/2002 was 4,216 while it reduced in 2011/2012 to 3052. The total nnumber now dropped to 1,119.
Another issue according to him is the repeal of the ‘No vacancy, No Promotion’ policy of the LASU administration which is alien to the university community and is perceived to stagnate the progress of academic staff members.

“The policy of ‘No vacancy, No Promotion’ policy is alien to the university community and is perceived to stagnate the progress of our members. It is also capable of making Lagos State University uncompetitive in the comity of universities. To keep the best and brighter, this policy needs to be repealed,” he added.
Nasir also stated that the non-implementation of the Universities Miscellaneous Provision (Amendment) Act, 2012 in LASU results in academic staff on the professional cadre being continuously prematurely retired, adding that this is not in the long term interest of the institution.
“The zone has observed with shock the levity with which the Authorities have handled this brewing crisis.
Rather than resolving the matter, the university authorities have engaged in the use of propaganda against the branch leadership and also working to justify a bad case.”
“In the absence of any concrete progress in the resolution of the above demands, the ASUU-LASU branch of our union regrettably had to give another ultimatum of 14 days effective Tuesday April 16,” he added. (Leadership)
