Lagos SCRPS renovates 92 dilapidated public schools

The Lagos State Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), on Wednesday 27 January revealed that 92 substandard public schools have so far been renovated in the State, in the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES Agenda.

This comes after the SCRPS paid a visit to schools for needs assessment and justification, after which a comprehensive list was compiled for the renovation project. The exercise was divided into two phases.

Chairman of the Committee, Hakeem Smith at a news conference in Ikeja, said the renovation cut across the six education districts of the State. He explained that the first phase projects are made up of about 300 new classrooms, hostel blocks, provision of about 100,000 student furniture in secondary and primary school, and rehabilitation interventions in 92 schools, emergency intervention in 42 schools in Lagos, among others after necessary processes and documentation were concluded.

According to Smith, the COVID-19 pandemic affected the commencement of the phase two projects in 2020 but maintained that other notable initiatives began in some communities.
