The Lagos state government has listed out guidelines for schools in the state as they reopen for academic activities after being closed for months due to COVID-19.
According to the revised calendar for the 2020/2021 academic session released by the Office of the Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), the second term of the 2020/2021 academic session will run for 61 days for public and private schools in the state starting from January 18, 2021, to April 30.
Students will observe mid-term break scheduled for March 4 and 5 with two public holidays – Good Friday on April 2 and Easter Monday on April 5. The third term resumption has been scheduled for May 4, while the term is to end on August 6.
The government further revealed that public schools in the state will maintain the shift-system introduced last year when they reopened for the first term session, with students in SS1 and JS3 classes to attend school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while those in SSS 2 and JSS 2 will go on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Primary school pupils were divided into two categories with the first set to go to school on Mondays and Wednesdays, for about three hours on Friday morning. The other set will go to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for three hours on Friday afternoon.
