Labour Ministry Invites Senior Staff of Colleges of Education for Talks Over Strike:

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity has invited the Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, to find ways of resolving the strike embarked upon by members of the union.

SSUCOEN embarked on a nationwide strike on March 4 over the inability of the Federal Government to meet the demands of the union.

The South West Zonal Chairman of the union, Mr Lere Oladapo, confirmed the invitation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos.

According to Oladapo, officers of the union are expected to hold a crucial meeting with the ministry from March 14, to resolve the issues that led to the strike.

“You can recall that colleges of education have been on an indefinite strike, we gave the government an ultimatum to meet our demands.

“At the expiration of the ultimatum, we went into dialogue with the government and they demanded that we give them six weeks to meet our needs as against 21 days that is provided by law.

“We have no option than to go on strike effective from March 4, due to the recalcitrant posture of government,” he stated. (NAN)
