It was gathered that a group of suspected cultists stormed the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin yesterday afternoon shooting sporadically and killing a student consequently.
The deceased who was said to have been shot close to the Institute of Finance and Management Studies in the institution was taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead later.
While commenting on the incident the rector of the polytechnic, Alhaji Moshood Elelu, said the student that died is not a student of the institution.
In his words, “Reports from the network of security made available to me confirmed that the student who was shot is not our student. We have refused to join the strike and there have been various attempts to frustrate us which have been successfully resisted.”
The incident temporarily stifled academic activities as most of the students boycotted lectures and were seen in clusters obviously discussing the incident.
