The Kwara State Government has set aside N135,500,000 under the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) as an interest-free loan to 1,119 private school owners across the state.
The Governor’s chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye disclosed this in Ilorin on Tuesday. He stated that the money will help to cushion the effect of private schools closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and avoid massive loss of jobs in the state.
Mr Ajakaye remarked that the KWASSIP has engaged with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kwara State after they reached out for assistance.
Under the voluntary arrangement, the schools have been grouped into categories A and B, with each group receiving between N200,000 and N100,000 depending on their staff strength.
Category A with a total of 236 private schools and staff strength of 20 and above will each receive N200,000 to support their workers, while category B totalling 883 schools with 19 or less staff are to receive N100,000 each.
