KWACOTECH lecturer pleads guilty to romance scam

The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has found a lecturer with the Kwara State College of Health Technology (KWACOTECH), guilty on allegations of a romance scam.

The lecturer identified as Opashola Abdullahi was arraigned before Justice Adenike Akinpelu, of the state high court by the Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, February 8, 2021, prior to his arrest in Offa on September 14, 2020, alongside 32 other suspected internet fraudsters.

According to the EFCC, his offense contravenes Section 95 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Law.

The lecturer pleaded ‘guilty’ when the charges were read to him. The case was adjourned till February 23, 2021, and he is to remain in the custody of the EFCC pending judgment.
